About the paper
The Ebike Press is an independent publication for e-bike buyers in Canada and the United States. It runs on a simple division of labour. The editorial desk is real writers with a beat — people who ride, report, and reach a verdict. The data desk builds the index: every price, spec and ranking on this site is either read straight from a retailer's storefront or computed from those readings. Nothing is estimated. Nothing is sponsored. The two desks never touch — opinion lives in the prose and can't move a number, and no number can buy a good review.

Why the paper exists
E-bike marketing is a genre of optimism. Ranges are quoted at the one temperature and rider weight that flatter them; a motor's "peak" wattage gets printed where its nominal number should be; a discount is "up to" a figure no cart ever reaches. Most buying advice online simply repeats those numbers back.
We started The Ebike Press to do the opposite: to read the whole market honestly and show our work. Every figure we publish is computed and reproducible — we cite the coverage ("of the machines that publish a range claim…"), we use medians so one $16,000 outlier can't drag the market, and we say plainly what the data cannot see. When two published numbers can't both be true, that contradiction is the story, not something we quietly drop.

How we work
Reviews and features are written by people; the index is computed by scripts. A glowing review cannot lift a Value Score, and no score can commission a kind review. The wall between them is the point.
Every number is read from a retailer storefront or derived from those readings, with a provenance and confidence grade attached. Prices refresh nightly and the site rebuilds from the fresh export.
Every brand and store is listed and scored under identical rules — same gate, same score, same deal check. No listing is paid, favoured, or removed on request. Rankings are pure arithmetic.
