What the statute actually says
PEI has dedicated Power-Assisted Bicycle Regulations: the bike needs functioning pedals, an electric motor of 500 W or less, a maximum assisted speed of 32 km/h, and a maximum weight of 120 kg - removing the pedals makes it illegal. Riders must be 16 or older and wear a chin-strapped bicycle helmet, but no driver's licence, registration or insurance is required (registration was dropped in 2021). E-bikes may use most roads and trails open to bicycles but not sidewalks, and the Confederation Trail only between April 1 and November 30; passengers are allowed only if the bike was built to carry them.
